HI-5 Success Stories: Local Health Departments’ Role in Implementing and Expanding Local Public Transportation Systems
Thursday, September 28, 2017 11:00:00 AM PDT - 1:30:00 PM PDT
The CDC’s Health Impact in 5 Years (HI-5) initiative highlights 14 non-clinical, community-wide approaches that have evidence reporting 1) positive health impacts, 2) results within five years, and 3) cost effectiveness. The implementation and expansion of public transportation is one of these 14 interventions.

After a brief overview of the HI-5 initiative, this webinar will focus on how local health departments can work with non-traditional partners – including transportation planners, elected officials, foundations, and community residents – to increase access to buses, subways, trains, or trolleys. Mississippi State Department of Health – District IX, Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services in Columbia, Missouri, and the Stapleton Foundation, a Denver Public Health partner, will share their experiences in strengthening their external partnerships to inform their respective community’s efforts to implement and/or expand public transportation systems.

Learning Objectives:
•	Understand the selection criteria for the 14 HI-5 interventions as they relate to the overall aim of the initiative.
•	Identify at least two examples of HI-5 public transportation interventions.
•	Discuss the facilitators and barriers local health departments face in implementing and/or expanding public transportation interventions.

Organizational Speakers:
•	Mississippi State Department of Health – District IX
•	Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services
•	Stapleton Foundation/Denver Public Health
•	Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
